From standard to character — a Country-Style design and brand concept for a city hotel

Generic business hotels are interchangeable. This concept shows how a well-considered Country/country-house design turns a standard property into a hotel with character — with a consistent colour and material world running from reception to the crockery.

From standard to character — a Country-Style design and brand concept for a city hotel

The starting point

Many upper-midscale city hotels barely differ from one another — comparable fit-out, interchangeable atmosphere. For such a property we produced, on the owner's behalf, a design and brand concept that gives the hotel its own recognisable character.

The idea: a consistent Country world

The basis is a consistent colour and material world — warm natural tones, solid wood (oak), linen and wool, natural stone, wrought iron, ceramics and genuine leather. These lead materials run through the whole property, from the reception desk to textiles and crockery, and create a harmonious, warm, durable image — modern rather than museum-like kitsch.

Tiered room lines

Three tiered furnishing lines are envisaged for the rooms — from a light, Scandinavian-influenced Country line, through a „Rustic Elegance“ premium category, to one or two dramatically staged theme suites as a highlight. All follow the same design code but differ in material depth and richness of detail. This lets the concept be sold in a differentiated way without diluting the brand family.

Differentiation across all areas

Lobby, restaurant, bathrooms, spa, meeting rooms and outdoor areas also follow the Country idea. In the MICE segment in particular, this creates a „meeting as if on a country estate“ experience that stands out from interchangeable conference hotels and stays in the memory.

Storytelling as a brand lever

Experiential details — an own care line in apothecary bottles, a signature drink, curated décor, regional partnerships — cost comparatively little but create recognisable brand moments and increase the likelihood of guest photos and reviews. Implementation is gradual, without interrupting ongoing operation.

What transfers

Character does not arise from a single expensive piece, but from a consistent, continuous design language plus storytelling. Whoever combines the two clearly sets a standard hotel apart from the competition — and justifies higher rates, better reviews and stronger repeat business.
